The Spain national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de España) is the national football team of Spain, representing the country since 1921. The current FIFA ranking of the Spain national team is 10th in the world, as of 29 June 2023; the score is 1,703.45 - an increase of 20.6 points from the previous ranking.[1] The highest ranking of 1 was first measured[2] in July 2008, and the lowest ranking of 25 was first measured[2] in March 1998. The Spanish national team's peak period included winning two consecutive European Football Championships, in 2008 and 2012, and between these two titles, they won the FIFA World Cup, in 2010. Another record achievement of the Spanish national team was in the framework of the Euro held in Spain in 1964, when they won the cup after winning 2:1 against the Soviet Union in the final. In 1984, the team qualified for the final, but lost to the hosts France, 2:0, and finished as runners-up. The team suffered several disappointments in various tournaments, including being eliminated on penalties in the 1994 World Cup, 2002, and Euro 1996, and being eliminated in the group stages of the 1998 World Cup, the 2014 World Cup, and Euro 2004. This series of losses gave the Spanish team the stigma of a losing team, incapable of winning in the knockout stages. This image changed in Euro 2008, when Spain won the European Championship for the second time, under the guidance of Luis Argüense, after a 0–1 victory over Germany in the final with a goal by Fernando Torres. After winning the Euro In 2008, Spain rose to the top of the FIFA world rankings, becoming the sixth team to lead the rankings. The trend of change continued into the 2010 World Cup, which they won after a 1–0 victory over the Netherlands with a goal by Andrés Iniesta in extra time. The success also continued into Euro 2012, which they won, becoming the first team to win three major tournaments in a row. The Spanish team won the gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, and the silver medal at the Antwerp Olympics in 1920, the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The Spanish national team also has the longest streak of qualifying for the World Cup through qualifiers, having done so nine times in a row from 1986 to 2018 (every other team that came close to this was stopped by automatically qualifying as the host or world champion). The team also won the 1999 World Youth Championship in Nigeria. (Wikipedia)
