Olympique Lyonnais (French: Olympique Lyonnais; sometimes referred to as "Lyon" or "OL") is a French football club from Lyon, founded in 1950. The team plays its home games at the 59,186-seat Parc Olympique Lyonnais, which was inaugurated in 2016. Until then, the team had played at the 40,500-seat Stade de Gerland. Olympique Lyonnais won its first championship in the 2001–02 season, which also began a streak of seven consecutive championships, which is considered the longest in the history of the French league. The club is best known for developing young players who have gone on to become successful across Europe, such as Michael Essien, Florent Malouda, Sidney Gobbo, Juninho, Eric Abidal, Mahamadou Diarra, Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Samuel Umtiti, Anthony Martial, Corentin Tolisso and many others.
