Bayer 04 Leverkusen (German: Bayer 04 Leverkusen) is a German sports club best known for its football team. The club is located in the city of Leverkusen in North Rhine-Westphalia; the city borders Cologne to the south. The club is sponsored by Bayer, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, whose headquarters are in the city. Bayer Leverkusen is best known for being a serial title loser. Although the team is considered one of the most important in Germany in terms of historical tradition and audience size, the team has never managed to win the German championship. Moreover, for many seasons it seemed that Leverkusen was walking safely towards the championship title, but the team managed to lose the championship in the final rounds.
