Ajax Amsterdam (Dutch: Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax), known as Ajax Amsterdam or simply Ajax, is a football club from Amsterdam, Netherlands. Ajax is the most successful team in Dutch football with 36 championships, 20 cups, and is one of four teams in the Netherlands (along with PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Utrecht) that have never been relegated.

The team is named after the mythological hero Ajax, a name that is transliterated as Ajax and therefore many pronounce it as "Ajax". This hero wearing a helmet appears on the club's emblem. Ajax plays at the Johan Cruyff Arena. The team is considered a "Jewish" team. Historically, this probably developed because of the proximity of the original stadium to the Jewish neighborhood of Amsterdam, and because some of its players and management, as well as a relatively large number of fans, were Jewish.[3] Over time, its fanatical fans adopted this "identity" - they call themselves Jews even if they are not Jewish, and adorn themselves with Star of David symbols and Israeli flags. For this reason, many hate songs and insults by fans of rival teams, and especially Feyenoord, are associated with anti-Semitism and negative attitudes towards victims of the Holocaust.
