Southampton Football Club is a professional football club based in Southampton, England. The Saints play in the Premier League as of the 2016–17 season. The team played at the Dell Stadium from 1898 to 2001, but its limited capacity forced the team to move to a larger stadium, St Mary's Stadium (32,551 seats), in 2001. The traditional kit includes a red and white striped shirt and black shorts.

Southampton's main rivals are Portsmouth, also located in the south of England. Although Southampton were in Portsmouth's shadow until the 1950s, from 1960 onwards it was the Saints who were in the higher division almost every year. Southampton have even beaten Portsmouth in every cup match between the two.

The team is known, among other things, for its youth department, which has produced notable names such as Matthew La Tescia, Alan Shearer, Wayne Bridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale.
